From May 6 to 8, the finals of SkillsLatvia 2026, the national competition for young professionals’ skills, took place, where MIKC “Rīgas Dizaina un mākslas vidusskola” (Riga Design and Art High School) was represented by the maximum number of finalists – six female students who successfully withstood the competition in the semifinals.
In the skills competition category “Fashion Design,” our school was represented by Marta Babuškina and Evija Feldmane, in the category “Window Display Design and Styling” – Elizabete Vērzemniece and Anete Helēne Vaska, and in the category “Graphic Design Technologies” – Rēzija Svarāne and Kate Geiere-Milberga.
“The fashion designer competition started already on Wednesday, the other contestants began their work on Thursday and finished on Friday, working on different tasks that lasted from 12 up to 16 hours. It required a lot of effort and endurance not only on the competition days and in the evenings after completing the competition work, but also before that – preparing for participation in the finals in parallel with studies. During the competition, the girls also became friends with each other as a team and supported one another. The invested work was crowned with excellent results at the award ceremony – four out of six of our finalists received medals,” shares the school team leader, teacher Velga Jākobsone, with impressions from the competition.
With pride we congratulate:
-
Evija Feldmane for winning the gold medal in the category “Fashion Design”;
-
Marta Babuškina for winning the silver medal in the category “Fashion Design”;
-
Kate Geiere-Milberga for winning the gold medal in the category “Graphic Design Technologies”.
-
Rēzija Svarāne for winning the silver medal in the category “Graphic Design Technologies”;
We also thank Elizabete Vērzemniece and Anete Helēne Vaska for their convincing and professional performance in the category “Window Display Design and Styling.” Although this time they fell just short of medals, participation in the finals and the achieved result is a significant accomplishment.
A heartfelt thank you to the teachers – Velga Jākobsone, Rita Piešiņa, Ieva Ivana, Indra Merca, Klāra Grundšteina, and Inese Vēriņa-Lubiņa – for the work invested in preparing the students for the competition.
We are proud of our young professionals and wish them success in the future!
