Form Textile is a sector of textile design, which combines the design items made of textile, constituting a form (volume) – from a tiny toy to sizeable seating furniture (seating cushions, seat covers, light objects, etc.). Clothes and accessories (hats, gloves, bags, shoes, etc.) are also items of form textile.
The aim of the Form Textile programme is to shape students’ understanding of design as a process of creating things, from the first concept sketch to the finished product. The study process helps students develop their creativity, the ability to go into detail and analyse, find solutions and bring the idea to the goal.
» Our main working tool is JOY!
The Form Textile curriculum also incorporates two basic disciplines: Interior Design and Apparel Modelling. Both disciplines include ECO design and ECO fashion assignments.
COMPOSITION provides students with the knowledge of how to reflect ideas graphically, from the first hand-made sketches to the design item project; in COMPUTER GRAPHICS classes students master Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop graphic software; in INTERIOR DESIGN classes they obtain basic knowledge of premises design; during MODELLING/CONSTRUCTION classes they gain skills in technical modelling and sewing; WORKING WITH MATERIAL helps them implement ideas on the material, using various form making options on textile material: sewn and stuffed, folded, stretched on a structure, glued onto the form, turned around the form, constructively modelled, plaited, rolled, knitted, felted and steamed; QUALIFICATION WORK PLACEMENT aims at solidifying the skills acquired in the speciality; during MATERIALS STUDIES students get to know the materials used in the process and their characteristics; HISTORY OF DESIGN AND STYLE presents the design concept from the early days to the achievements of the world designers today.
It is impossible to imagine life without form textile things just like it is impossible to imagine childhood without a teddy bear, a person without clothes and a house without a favourite cushion. There are a plenty of opportunities, and we know where.
